Betty Jo "BJ" was born in Douglas, GA to the late Joseph and Erma Parrish. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Richard (Dick) Henderson and her sister, Grace Davis. She was 93 when she passed.
BJ was a 1945 graduate of Douglas High School where she was valedictorian, was active in the drama department and played basketball. She then went to South Georgia College and graduated in 1947 with a degree in Medical Technology. During college and for a number of years afterward, BJ acted in local plays and played tennis.
BJ then moved to Atlanta where she worked at Georgia Baptist Hospital as a Medical Technologist and met her husband.
After having children, BJ stayed at home to take care of her family. She enjoyed painting, writing prose and poetry, flower arranging, sewing, as well as, bowling and playing pool. She was also active in church and was encouraged by the sermons and music. BJ was known for her quick wit and sense of humor.
Upon her husband's retirement, they moved to Lanier Village Estates where she enjoyed many activities and extensive international travel. She always found the most pleasure in spending time with family and friends. In her last year she was cared for and beloved by the staff at Tryon Estates.
BJ is survived by her children: a daughter, Sheryl Jacobs (Robert) and a son, Rick Henderson. She has four grandchildren: Rebecca Jacobs, Matthew Henderson, Katherine Henderson, Stephen Henderson (Savannah) and one great granddaughter, Reese Henderson.
