ONAGA - Betty L. Haug, 89, of Onaga, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023 at the Onaga Health and Rehabilitation Facility.
She was born February 20, 1934 near Onaga, the daughter of George and Elsie (Fairbanks) Annan. She graduated from Onaga High School and from St. Mary's College of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri.
Betty was a Registered Nurse. She worked for the Onaga Hospital, the Westy Care Home in Westmoreland, the Pottawatomie County Health Department, and for Drs. Reitz, Miller and Meek in Manhattan. After retiring from nursing, she was also a childcare provider for the local communities of Blaine and Onaga. In her pastime she enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their sports, crocheting/knitting, and loved the Kansas Jayhawks.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Onaga, the Altar Society at the church, and a former member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Blaine.
She married Elmer Haug on October 13, 1962 in Onaga. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2015.
Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Roger Annan and John Annan, and four step-brothers, Galen Kelly, Raymond Kelly, Donald Kelly and Dayton Kelly.
Survivors include a son, John Haug (Jeanna), Westmoreland, a daughter, Elsie Heintzelman (Clint), Monument, CO, five grandchildren, Ethan Holz, Shelby Holz, Bryan Holz, Joceline Eichem and Heidi Grady, and a great granddaughter, Ellie Holz.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 21st at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Blaine. Betty will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the church, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church or St. Columbkille Catholic Church, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 312, Onaga, KS 66521.
