Gaffney, SC - Betty Wood Grigg passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on June 7, 2022, where she lived with her sister. Betty was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, John William Grigg and a great great niece, Elouise Iva Neely. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Grigg McAbee (Butch) of Blacksburg, SC; her sister, Peggy Wood Childers of Gaffney, SC; nieces that she loved as daughters, Debra Childers Phillips (Jack) and Kimberly Childers Fowler (Dennis) both of Gaffney, SC, Tammie Childers Phillips (Craig) of Rock Hill, SC; and a niece Kayla Roland Branch (Sam) of Swannanoa, NC; a nephew, Clifton Moss of Swannanoa, NC. One of Betty's greatest joys was making her signature fried apple pies and delivering them to those who had experienced the loss of a loved one, an illness in the family or sometimes sharing for no reason at all. Betty enjoyed gardening and she loved spending hours in her yard tending to her favorite flowers. Word finds and sewing were her relaxation and phone conversations that could last hours kept her connected to her friends.
Betty's greatest gift was the fierce loyalty she showed towards those she loved and her family will always remember her for her loving care. She was deeply committed to her family and selflessly cared for her own mother, father and husband during their respective illnesses. Naturally she took on her own illness with a positive attitude and enduring strength.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Agape Hospice, especially to Dot Clary, Doris Green and Adrianna Trajo, caregiver Sandra Clark, Dr. William James, Dr. Carlton Scwabb and Gibbs
Cancer Center nurses, especially Wendy Mann and Minerva Horn.
