Betty Jean (Cook) Grant, 86, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2024, after a 5-year journey with Alzheimer's.
Betty was born November 21, 1937, in Mobile, Alabama, the daughter of Gillis Garrette & Alma Lee (Burch) Cook. She was one of five sisters, and the family joke was that they each had a brother. Her parents and siblings all preceded her in death.
Betty met the love of her life, Don Grant, in 1957 while he was serving in the Navy. They were married on December 20, 1958. After the wedding they moved to Don's hometown of Columbia, Missouri, six years later moving to Marion, Iowa and in 1986 settled in Punta Gorda, Florida where Betty enjoyed the year round sunshine and warm weather. Together they were blessed with three daughters, Donna, Rachael, and Julie.
Betty enjoyed various crafts and was an excellent cook. Whether it was for a family dinner, a church potluck, baking cakes and cookies for friends, or a holiday feast she could always be counted on to serve up something delicious and fill it with love.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Don Grant, her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Grant, Rachael & Randy Richardson, and Julie & Dennis Woodruff and her grandchildren Audrey, Ian, Sean, Samantha, Britany, Brandon, Wyatt, Lizzy, and Angelique.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Tidewell Hospice for the compassionate care they gave to Betty and those that love her.
There will be a memorial service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Friendship United Methodist Church 12275 Paramount Drive, Punta Gorda. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you spread compassion when and where you can - a simple smile, a helping hand, or a donation to your favorite charity in loving memory of Betty Jean (Cook) Grant.
