Betty Francis Hoard Dodson, 93, widow of the late William Leon Dodson of Green Acres Drive, Ware Shoals, SC, died July 15, 2023, at NHC in Mauldin, SC.
Born October 7, 1929, in Eatonton, GA, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Clayton Hoard. She grew up in Jackson, GA, and was a graduate of Jackson High School. She attended business school in Greenwood, SC, and worked for a time at Riegel Textile Corporation and was a homemaker.
A faithful member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church, she led Youth Vacation Bible School, served on numerous committees, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School for many years. Betty possessed a profound faith in God that nurtured and sustained her throughout her life.
Betty was also a charter member and past president of the Ware Shoals Woman's Civic Club and served many years on the Greenwood County Library Board. She loved being with her family, taking long walks, listening to music, shopping, learning new hobbies, playing bridge with friends, and going to the beach. A natural teacher and lifelong learner, she also enjoyed reading novels and poetry and studying the Bible.
She was the most wonderful mother and "Mimi" to her son William L. Dodson, Jr. (Susan) of Greenville; two daughters, Betty Anne Dodson Black (Bryan) of Easley and Beverly Dodson Dozier (Robert) of Columbia; seven grandchildren: Virginia Black, Susannah Shirley (Rob), Paul Bryan Black, Walker Pruett (Jade), Rob Dozier, Will Dodson, and Eliza Dozier, as well as two great-grandchildren: Mattie and Charlie Shirley.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Ware Shoals First Baptist Church, with Reverend Dr. Floyd Parker and Reverend Dan Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
