Betty H. Clever, age 90, of St. Thomas, PA died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on August 14, 2024.
Born to the late John W. and Vera Mellott Hollenshead of Mercersburg, she was one of 7 children.
She attended Lemasters High School. She was married to the late Richard G. Clever for 53 years until his death in 2004.
Betty co-owned and operated several groceries stores, the first being Clever's Market of Ft. Loudon (1960-68), the Carlton Heights Market in St. Thomas (1968-2003) and finally the Valley Market in Ft. Loudon (1990-2010).
She had 4 children; surviving are sons, Joseph Clever wife Theresa and son Joshua of Lancaster, PA, Jared Clever of San Francisco, CA. Sister Jean and husband Harry Sowers. Betty was preceded in death by two sons, John Clever and James Clever.
Betty was a member of the St. Thomas, Assembly of God church for many years. She also worked with the Gideons International. She enjoyed volunteering at the Chambersburg Hospital where she worked in the gift shop. She especially loved working in her garden and enjoyed the many flowers she lovingly tended along with the various deer, turkeys and songbirds that regularly visited. Betty will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
Funeral service at 11:00 AM on August 20, 2024 in Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with Pastor Joshua Baldwin officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
No public viewing; however, there will be a visitation one hour prior to the service Tuesday in the funeral home.
