Mrs. Betty Ruth Smith Blanton went home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2023, at the age of 91, in a local health care facility, following an extended illness, surrounded by loving family members.
Mrs. Blanton was born in Rome, GA on August 18, 1931, daughter of the late Ernest Benjamin Smith and the late Willie Ella McCraw Smith. She lived most of her life in the Coosa Community and was a 1948 graduate of Coosa High School. She was a very faithful member of Mt. Alto Baptist Church all of her life. She served as the church secretary for over 50 years along with many other positions. She was a fan of her grandchildren's sports and never missed a game. They all knew Grandmama would be there. She was an avid Braves fan. She retired from Darlington Lower School where she worked as a kindergarten aide.
Mrs. Blanton was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, Clyde Cameron Blanton, to whom she was married on June 17, 1950. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ernest Bender Smith (Sugar Boy), her sister, Willie Frances Smith Camp, a granddaughter, Kelly Ruth Copeland, and son-in-law, Roy Copeland.
Survivors include her children; James Blanton (Karen), Steve Blanton (Donna), Mark Blanton all of Rome, and Phyllis Blanton Copeland, of La Fayette, GA; nine grandchildren; Jason Blanton, Aren Blanton King (Sammy), Jeremiah Blanton (Melissa), Matt Blanton (Lindsey), Christopher Blanton, Tiffany Blanton Askew (Jordan) all of Rome, Anna Copeland Angland (Corey), Andrew Copeland, and Meredith Copeland all of La Fayette; 17 great grandchildren; Jacey Blanton, Aubrey Blanton, Cody King, Ava King, Miya Blanton, Haiden Blanton, Harrison East, Gavin East, Cameron Blanton, Addison Blanton, Ledger Blanton, Cailey Askew, Gabriel Askew, Memphis Askew, Weston Angland, Emerson Angland, and William Angland; her brother-in-law, Dr. Paul L. Camp of Rome; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at Mt. Alto Baptist Church on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 2:00pm with Dr. Frank Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 12 :00pm until the hour of service.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Mt. Alto Baptist Church on Saturday, January 28, 2023, by 1:30 pm and include her grandsons.
