Betty L. Bayer , 95 Dec 19, 1925 - Jan 20, 2021 Mrs. Betty Lee (Grimm) Bayer, 95, of Waynesboro, PA, died January 20, 2021, at her home. Born December 19, 1925 in Keedysville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Nelson and Mary Elizabeth (Leatherman) Grimm. Mrs. Bayer attended Keedysville (MD) Elementary School and Boonsboro (MD) High School.She and her husband, the late Harlan Jesse Bayer, were married on November 25, 1942. Mr. Bayer passed away on July 13, 2013. Early in their married life they resided on the family dairy farm in Benevola, MD and later Boonsboro, MD, prior to moving to Waynesboro in 1958. They purchased and operated the Waynesboro Paint and Glass Company, located at 5 E. Main St., Waynesboro, later relocating to Wayne Heights, PA. They also owned and operated Bayers Home Center, residential construction and land development company, for over 45 years. They constructed homes in Franklin County, PA and Washington County, MD. Mrs. Bayer was a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Antietam District and was a volunteer at the Waynesboro Hospital for over 48 years. She is survived by a son, Harlan Eugene Bayer of Waynesboro; her daughter-in-law, Cynthia Lewis Bayer of Rochester, NY; one sister, Mary Margaret Grimm of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Wayne Bayer, who passed on February 15, 2011; and five brothers, Charles Grimm, Donald Grimm, Harold Grimm, Robert Grimm, and Richard Grimm. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 25, 2021 at the Antietam Meeting House, Waynesboro, PA with the home brethren officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at the Antietam Meeting House. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing will be observed. The family requests the omission of flowers.Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, is assisting with the arrangements.
