Betty Faye Wiley Ashby, 98, of Rushville, passed away peacefully at home Nov. 22, 2020 surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Rushville on Apr. 8, 1922, the first child of Faye H and Kathryn Jenkins Wylie.
She graduated from Rushville High School in 1941 and then attended business College in Muncie where she met her husband, Samuel Elias Ashby. They were married Oct. 18, 1942 and he preceded her in death May 16, 1988.
Betty lived in Manilla for a number of years, where she raised her four children. While in Manilla she was a member of the Manilla United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and later was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder.
Betty was a member of the Rush County Daughters of the American Revolution and participated in the Rush County Senior Center Art classes. She loved to dance and took tap dance lessons with her granddaughter and then took clogging lessons for 20 years, retiring at the age of 80. Betty was also involved in the Rush County Players.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her sisters, Janet Land, Mary Davey and Dorothy Bess; her son Bill Ashby and her companion of 20 years Phillip Schutt.
She is survived by her son Jerry (Maggie) Ashby, daughters, Jean (Perry) Bennett and Sandra (George) Coons; grandchildren, Katie (Rob) Bean, Joe (Jessica) Ashby, Matthew Ashby, David (Emily) Kissick, Tyler Coons, Wylie (Kimberly) Coons and Kent Spurgeon. 12 great grandchildren and four great-great grand children.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, Nov. 27, 2020 at Trinity Presbyterian Church 631 N. Harrison St. Rushville IN 46173 withvisitation from 11 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow at the Manilla cemetery. Memorial's may be given to Trinity Presbyterian church or a charity of your choice.
