Bette Hitch passed peacefully in her sleep on March 30, 2022, in Boise, Idaho. She was born Bette Eileen Hoxsie in Long Beach, California on April 9, 1934, to Castle Richard (Dick) Hoxie and Ena Myrtle Herlinger Hoxie Bollinger. She graduated from San Luis Obispo High School and went on to meet her future husband, James Hitch, at Cal Poly University. They moved to Ventura where they farmed. They then adopted two children, Sarah and James (Jim), and in 1963 moved to Parma, Idaho to farm. Eventually, they built a home on their beloved Snake River.
Bette was an active member of the community, volunteering for Girl Scouts, Job's Daughters and Coast Guard Auxiliary. She drove countless miles to music lessons, concerts and swim meets. She was also a favorite cook for many high school events. When the children were older, Bette worked as a secretary for several Parma businesses: First Security Bank, Pederson Insurance and Notus/Parma Road District.
Bette enjoyed many hobbies including bridge, swimming and quilting. The family could be found most Sundays in the winter seasons snow skiing, and water skiing in the summers. Bette was also a painter and an artist who enjoyed a variety of mediums, even teaching stained glass and tole painting on their ping pong table. Plus, she was a voracious reader.
She served as President in PEO, was on the leadership council for Canyon County Girl Scouts and in her later years, found great solace in the Kirkpatrick Presbyterian Church. She moved to Grace Assisted Living in Caldwell for several years.
She is survived by her brother, Gerald Hoxsie (Burbank, CA). Daughter, Sarah Hitch (Tucson, AZ). Son, Jim Hitch. And three grandchildren - Jimmie (Kathryn) Hitch (Idaho Falls, ID), Heather Hitch (Boise, ID) and Heidy Hitch (Coeur d'Alene, ID). And four great-grandchildren.
A small memorial will be held at a later date. Please send any memorials to Parma Kirkpatrick Memorial Community Church.
