Bette Hirsch, 60, of Plankinton, SD, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, July 16, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in White Lake. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:00 AM July 16, at the Church with a Rosary Service at 10:00 AM. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Bette Lynn (Carda) Hirsch was born on November 23, 1960 to John and Erma Carda in Aberdeen, SD. She grew up on the family farm near Chelsea, SD. She graduated from Northwestern High School in 1979. She attended Northern State College and graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1983. After graduation, she moved to Sioux Falls and was employed as an administrative secretary/bookkeeper at South Eastern Council of Governments for 11 years. After that, she worked for the City of Sioux Falls for 9 months in a temporary position. Her next job was with Sonstegard Foods where she was an accounts payable clerk for 14 years.
She married Dennis Hirsch on December 31, 2003. Upon his death in 2006, she knew she would eventually move closer to her family. In December of 2009, she moved to White Lake and began working part-time at Ron's Market as a bookkeeper in 2011. She moved to Plankinton in 2017.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Sioux Falls. Bette enjoyed growing up on the farm, fishing, reading, putting puzzles together, riding the motorcycle with Denny, playing volleyball, attending legion events with Denny, watching family in their sporting events, playing games with her great-nieces and nephews, and sharing a good laugh with her co-workers at Ron's Market.
Bette is survived by her mother, Erma Carda of White Lake, SD; three sisters, Donna Goodell of Sun City, AZ, Linda (Mike) Smith of Kimball, SD, Carol (Ron) Gillen of White Lake, SD; brother, David (Bunny) Carda of Chelsea, SD; mother-in-law, Deodata Cowley of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law Doug (Billie) Hirsch, of Mabank, TX; sister-in-law Sue (Jeff) Even of Sioux Falls, SD; two step-sisters-in-law, Paula (Dave) Cox of Norway, ME, and Debra Cowley of Chaska, MN; step-brothers-in-law, Doug Cowley of Madison, SD and Steve (Jennifer) Cowley of Box Elder, SD; step-daughter, Jenn (Corey) Atkinson; step-son, Nick Hirsch of Sioux Falls, SD; two step-grandsons, Reid and Eli Atkinson of Sioux Falls, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bette was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Hirsch; father, John Carda; brother-in-law, Duke Goodell; step-father-in-law, Paul Cowley; and her grandparents.
