Bette Barden was born September 4, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio, to proud parents William A. and Carolyn J. Barden and was the first grandchild on both sides of the family. She went to be with Our Lord on July 3, 2022, which, probably by Bette's design, was her parents' 85th wedding anniversary. She was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her brother, William A. (Bill) Barden, Jr. (Diane), nephew (Eric), nieces (Carolyn, Susan, and Anna), and her many beloved cousins. Bette was a loving, generous, and kind daughter, granddaughter, sister, and aunt and was devoted to her family and friends. Bette grew up in Falls Church, Virginia, attended Mars Hill University, and enjoyed a long career with the US Department of Agriculture. She was a long-time member of Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church and a proud member of both PEO and the Order of the Eastern Star. Bette served as Worthy Matron and held Star Point Martha and Marshal stations in Eastern Star. We are all saddened by Bette's passing, but blessed beyond measure to have had her in our lives. Bette's friends will be gathering at Murphy Funeral Home 1102 West Broad St. Falls Church, VA on Thursday 7/14 from 6:00-7:00PM to honor her work with Eastern Star / PEO. A memorial service for Bette will be held at Homer Avenue United Methodist Church, Cortland, NY, at 11:00am on Saturday July 16, 2022, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Fabius, NY. In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to contribute in memory of Bette to Mars Hill University, Mars Hill, NC, or to a charity of your choice.
