Bertrand H. Duvernay, 85, of Salem, NH passed away on Friday morning, January 14th, 2022 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH.
He was born on February 12, 1936 to Yvonne (Metivier) and Achille Duvernay and was raised in Manchester, NH and attended local schools. After graduation, Bert enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in Germany. Under the GI Bill, he went on to attend New Hampshire College.
Following his service, he married the love of his life Rachel and bought a home in Salem, NH, where he lived until his passing. Bert was an active member of the Salem community, where he held various positions, such as a Commissioner within the Salem Housing Authority and as the Salem School District Clerk for several terms. He was also active within St. Joseph's Church and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bert was a standing member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He was a driver/salesman for the Continental Baking Company for over 35 years. Bert's passion was playing piano and he enjoyed dancing and listening to big band music at various local venues.
Bert was predeceased by his loving wife of 43 years, Rachel (Lanoie) Duvernay; his parents, Achille Duvernay and Yvonne (Metivier) Duvernay; his brothers, Maurice, John and Roger Duvernay; his sisters, Simone Lamy and Madeleine Duvernay.
Bert will continue to be loved and cherished by his 5 children, Michel and wife Christina Duvernay of Portland, ME, Melanie and husband Bill Kirby of Weare, NH, Thomas and wife Dianne Duvernay of Deering NH, Ann Gubellini and Alfred Cataldo of Salem NH, and Emily and husband Robert LeBoeuf of Salem NH; his 10 grandchildren, Heather Constable, Allison Constable, Kara Kirby, Tyler Duvernay, Jordan Duvernay, Chelsea Weltin, Joseph Huskey, Nicole Gubellini, Danielle Gosselin and Nicholas LeBoeuf; his 5 great-grandchildren, Alissa, Gabriel, Charlotte, Thomas and Juneau; his sister, Alice and her husband Tim Ring; his brother, Robert and his wife Madeleine Duvernay; his sisters and brothers in law Muriel Maheu, Janet and Ted Hillson, Yvette and Jim Garcia; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 18th from 5-7pm at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday morning, at 11am at St. Joseph's Church, 40 Main Street, Salem, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus, Council 4442, 37 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079.
