Bertie Watson Gay, age 79, or 1010 Askew Station Bend, Greensboro, GA, passed away October 6, 2022, at St Mary's hospital in Athens, GA, after a brief illness. A native of Dublin, GA, was born June 3, 1943, the daughter of Jack and Ethel Watson, who preceded her in death.
Bertie was a graduate of Dublin High School. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church Americus, GA, where she made her home for 52 years before relocating to Lake Oconee, Greensboro, GA, and becoming a member of Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church.
Bertie enjoyed traveling and working in the construction rental and auction businesses with her husband of 52 years, the late Carlus Delmas Gay, Jr. Bertie loved spending time with her 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. She always looked forward to gathering for family dinners and special occasions. Bertie was active in many clubs and loved playing bridge with her friends. Bertie enjoyed cooking cherry pie, sewing for friends and family, and shopping for deals. Bertie was known for her strong work ethic and determination to complete a task. Bertie had a "one of a kind" personality which included many "Bertieisms." Bertie was a faithful friend.
Her survivors include daughters, Tammy Gay Woodward (Price), Lake Oconee, Greensboro, GA, and Terrie Gay Mountjoy, Eatonton, GA; son, Carlus Delmas Gay, III, of Greensboro, GA; five grandchildren, Lainey Woodward Younkin (Morgan), Watson Woodward Harris (Austin), Della Woodward, Frank Hines (Alexis), Nicole Hines Purcell (Brandon); great grandchildren, Branson, Jude, and Wells Younkin and Ansley and Knox Harris; sisters, Ruth Harrison, Marion, Iowa and Jacquelyn Bush (Billy) Dublin, GA; sisters-in-law, Shirley Gay, Dalton, Ga., and Penny Gay, Houston, TX; and many special nieces and nephews, Gayle Harden (Danny), Mike Skaggs, Robbie Bush, Mark Bush, Drew Gay (Jill), Ty Gay (Whitney), Skylar Gay (Kaley), and Casey Gay.
She was preceded in death by her oldest sister, Carolyn Hobbs (H.D.), Dublin, GA, nephew, Bucky Hobbs, Dublin, Ga, brothers-in-law, Bobby Gay, Greensboro, GA, and Dwayne Gay, Houston, TX;
Graveside services will be held at Northview Cemetery, Dublin, GA, Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 2pm. In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Georgia Sheriff's Youth Home, 3000 Hwy 42 North, McDonough, GA, 39253.
