Bertha B. (Wolanski) Lawrence, 104, of Manchester, NH, died February 25, 2021, at Villa Crest Nursing Home, after a period of failing health.
Born in Manchester, NH on February 19, 1917, she was the daughter of Polish immigrants, Julian and Tekla (Kulpinski) Wolanski.
Bertha worked as an assembler in various local shoe factories. Until her retirement, she was employed with Modutec.
Devoted to her faith, she was a longtime communicant of Saint Pius X Church.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, her family was the center of her world. Bertha enjoyed gardening, holiday gatherings, Sunday drives with her husband and sisters, and family picnics at state parks. Most notably, Bertha will be fondly remembered for her New Year's Day open house party and its wonderful spread of Polish cuisine.
She was married to her husband of sixty-seven years, Charles "Russ" Lawrence. He died August 9, 2006. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Danielle Lawrence; a grandson, Patrick Lawrence; four sisters, Juliana Breen, Lucy McKinney, Helen Kennedy, and Emily Chaput; a brother, Peter Wolanson; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Lawrence.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Villa Crest Nursing Home for their compassion and excellent care.
Family members include two sons, Gary Lawrence and his wife, Marlene, and Charles "Dan" Lawrence; a daughter, Linda O'Brien and her husband, Leonard "Obie"; eight grandchildren, Robin Lawrence, Matthew Parker, Angela Lawrence, David Doucet, James Doucet, Christopher Doucet, Adam Lawrence, and Chad Lawrence; seventeen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services:A walk-through wake with strict social distancing, masks, and restricted contact with the family will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM at Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH.
A memorial service will follow in the funeral home at 7 PM.
Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Manchester Animal Shelter, 490 Dunbarton Road, Manchester, NH 03102.
