Bertha Virginia (Lahey) Orzechowski passed November 1, 2018, surrounded by her family in her residence at Carlyle Place in Bedford, NH at the age of 92.
She was born in Weare, NH, March 3, 1926, the daughter of Arthur Lahey Sr. and Mary Belle (Clement) Lahey. She was the loving wife of Stanley J. Orzechowski (predeceased 1999).
Bertha and her husband were proprietors of their family grocery store business, Joe's Market in Manchester, NH until their retirement in 1979. She loved spending summers lakeside and boating on the waters at her summer home on Pleasant Lake, and partnering with her husband, were four-time cribbage champions of the Pleasant Lake Cribbage Club. As a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Manchester, NH, she participated in making traditional Polish foods and in the church fairs.
Bertha was a memorable woman, quick-witted, always willing to share a constructive opinion, a fascinating story or a funny joke, never being at a loss for words.
She was devoted to her family as wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always keeping an eye out for the well-being of them, her extended family, as well as her friends & neighbors.
Bertha is survived by her son Dennis Orzechowski, two grandsons Daniel Orzechowski & wife Amy, Mathew Orzechowski & wife Lauren, one great-grandson Charles Orzechowski, brother James Lahey & wife Michelle, numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at Goodwin Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 607 Chestnut Street, Manchester, from 1 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, November 11.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 12 at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Cathedral 166 Pearl Street, Manchester with a private family burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to American Heart Association, or American Breast Cancer Foundation are welcomed.
