Benny Zavatsky, age 91, passed away Monday, February 21, 2022 while in hospice care in Athens, GA. Known for his sunny disposition and having a joke or two always available, to the end, he delighted in sharing his home-grown humor with any new person that came into his life.
Benny was born in Chicago, IL; but spent the majority of his adult life in Buffalo Grove, IL. He was the first president of the Buffalo Grove Recreational Association (BGRA) and loved to watch both his oldest and youngest children play in that league decades apart.
He was a United States Navy Veteran that served in the Korean War. He took what he learned in the Navy and become an electronics technician and later went on to work in sales with Kraft chemical where he retired at 84 years old.
Benny was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Messinger Zavatsky; two brothers and his sister.
Mr. Zavatsky is survived by his children, Michael Zavatsky and his wife, Jacqueline of Athens; Howard David Zavatsky of Buffalo Grove, IL; Janet Lowry of Niles, IL and Samuel Zavatsky and his wife, Linda of Vernon Hills, IL; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great-nephews.
His body will be cremated at Bernstein Funeral Home in Athens, GA and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Vernon Hills, IL.
