Benny Keith Hyde, 74, passed away on Sunday, June 12, just two days shy of his 75th birthday. Benny was born in Greenville, Texas on June 14, 1947 to the late Waymon and Elta Hyde. He attended East Texas State University in Commerce, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order and studied accounting. After graduation, Ben began his 33-year career with the Internal Revenue Service, where he worked with companies around the world as an International Tax Manager. He also had a pivotal role as the Petroleum Industry Program manager. He earned the Albert Gallatin Award for outstanding service upon retirement. After leaving the Treasury Department, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers for 8 years as a tax director. Ben enjoyed all sports and, in later life, especially golf. He was a huge fan of Dallas teams including the Mavericks, Rangers, and "his" Cowboys. His years in retirement were spent enjoying golf with his Sun City "Bushwackers" and "Hackers" and his college friends, volunteering at his grandchildren's elementary school, and spending time with his beloved family. He was a man of God who "walked the walk and talked the talk". Ben was the kindest, most patient man who gave generously and never met a stranger. The man could tell stories - most of which were true. Ben is preceded in death by his parents, Waymon and Elta (Tompkins) Hyde, brother Waymon Jerry Hyde, and son, Stephen Hyde. Ben is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn (Schwenn), his daughter, Sara and husband David Schmidt of Round Rock, grandchildren Anna, Catherine, and Charles Schmidt, sister Judy and husband Bill Waddle of Lancaster, CA, and numerous nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held on June 30th at 7 pm at Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown. A celebration of life will be held in Dallas at a later date, followed by a burial at Merit Cemetery.
