Bennie Johnson, A.K.A the Bucket Man, was born in Baton Rouge, La. and later in his teen years moved to Brooklyn, New York where he met the love of his life, Margarita Feliciano, they married and soon started a family.
In 1983 he moved to Massachusetts with his family. Bennie was always adventurous always looking for ways to be involved with making life better for his family and people he encountered. His curiosity and adventurous nature took him on a journey of accomplishments that came natural to him. He was an advocate, where it was his nature to help and speak for those who needed help. Benny was also an activist which also came natural to him to support good moral values. He started social programs like "Pay to Be Poor", a food bank program, advocated for bringing in the first PTVA bus service for the Florence Heights community. He was also an inventor carrying two patents. Bennie loved to debate, he was articulate and very spiritual.
He was also a great musician starting very young and continued to perform until his passing earning the name Bucket Man, you may have seen him around Amherst singing with his bucket entertaining people, he said he would do it to lift people's spirit. When he was out and about, people would call out his name to say hello. A Legend is gone- there will never be another like him!
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Margarita Johnson who recently passed on Sept 29, 2020.
He leaves behind three children Petey M. Johnson, Margaret Johnson, Joseph "Jay" Johnson, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, four brothers James Johnson, Jim Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Robert Hicks, and two sisters his twin Judy Phillips and Mona Jones, a host of nieces, nephews, and great friends.
Services will be on Friday Jan. 29th at Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Road, Northampton, MA. with a walk-through visitation from 2pm to 3pm.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, all attendees are required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and are not permitted to congregate in the funeral home or parking lot, and are respectfully asked for no physical contact with the family.
