Beatrice Anne Holley, 89, of Pearland, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 3, 2022, after a long illness. Anne, a native Houstonian, was born at St. Joseph Hospital on September 27, 1932, to Charles Arthur and Alice Beech Dunlop.
Anne attended Garden Villas Elementary school where she first met her future husband, James, and Stephen F Austin High School where she played the bagpipes as a member of the Scottish Brigade drill team. After high school, Anne attended Baylor University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. During her years at Baylor, Anne met a group of girls in Alexander dormitory which became life-long friends. Throughout the years, she enjoyed attending reunions and "The Baylor Fling" with this group as well taking many special trips. Some of her favorite trips were visiting Israel and Egypt, cruising the Greek Isles and taking train rides through Canada and Copper Canyon in Mexico.
Anne married James Atmar Holley on August 31, 1957. They were married for 29 years before James's death in 1986. Anne and James bought property in Pearland early in their relationship. In 1972, they built their dream home, designed by James, and moved to Pearland with their two daughters. Anne remained in this home the rest of her life.
Anne began her teaching career at Gregg Elementary in HISD. She spent the majority of her career teaching second grade at Shadycrest Elementary in Pearland ISD where she was privileged to work with a wonderful faculty and staff. She retired in 1993.
Anne was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pearland and later at the First Methodist Church of Houston. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa professional educational sorority. Her Christian faith and family were the most important aspects of her life. Anne spent her leisure time gardening, traveling and reading.
Besides being preceded in death by her parents and husband, Anne survived her sister, Ishbel Fairleigh; brother, Charles Dunlop; brother-in-law, James Fairleigh and nephew, Paul Fairleigh.
Anne is survived by daughters, Catherine Brennan, husband Ronnie, and Lynne Holley; her grandchildren Meagan Brennan, Michael Brennan and David Brennan; her sister-in-law Vera Dunlop as well as her nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, March 10, at 1 pm followed by the funeral service at 2 pm at Forest Park East Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers are Ronnie Brennan, Michael Brennan, David Brennan, Ricky Lucia, Philip Lucia and Wade Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the ALS Association or the charity of your choice.
