Barney "Bag" Leroy Barfield , 99, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. He was born on September 29, 1924 in Yorktown to the late Mabin and Lottie (Davis) Barfield. He was one month short of his 100th birthday.
Barney and Patricia settled in Houston, TX while Barney made his living in the Oil & Gas Industry. He retired at the young age of 55 and he and Patricia retired to the country in Sweet Home, TX. His hobbies were playing golf, dancing with his love, working in the yard at home and at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Sweet Home. Barney loved to end his workday with a drink - usually a frozen margarita - on the back patio with Pat and family when they visited. Saturdays and Sundays were quite boisterous in the household as he was a huge football and golf fan. You could hear him yelling at the TV for miles. He loved to hear his kids and grandkids playing games and laughing in the kitchen while he watched TV.
Barney attended Catholic Mass with his family for many years in Houston. He made his first communion at Queen of Peace with his grand-daughter in May of 1990. He and Patricia ran the raffle for the church picnic for years and he loved selling the raffle tickets to anyone he knew or met.
He gave the best hugs and always told us to come see him when we could, have fun and live a good life. His nightly prayers with Patricia were a gift to hear. You never had to wonder if he loved you - he told you often.
Barney is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 69 years, Patricia Marie Barfield, his children, Bonnie Bowden (Larry), Brenda Walls (PG), Grandchildren, Christina Kelley (Josh), Jon Caples, Sarah Bowden and Samantha Bowden (David), Clint Armstrong (Kristy), Matthew Walls (Iris) great-grandchildren, Kaylee Stavinoha, K J Stavinoha, Jacob Linkous, Katie Armstrong, Jaiden Garza and numerous nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Belva Froelich, A.C. "Bill" Barfield, Janie Scovele, Joe G Barfield, Margie Wasserman and Dora Dean Marek.
