Barbara Loraine Perry VanMeter went to meet her Heavenly Father on February 10, 2021. She was born September 15th, 1933 to Vernon and Nellie Perry.
Barbara grew up in Beaumont, TX and graduated from South Park High School in 1950. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Gene, on April 20, 1951, and made their home in Beaumont. Together, they raised 2 sons. After several years, Barbara returned to school, where she received her degree in Home Economics in 1967 and master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from Lamar University. She became a Home Economics teacher at Forest Park High School, and later a counselor for the next 14 years. Barbara enjoyed china painting as a hobby. Her greatest joy was playing the piano both at home and serving as the pianist at South Park Baptist Church for many years. She loved playing the piano with Gene singing the songs. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, meemaw, great meemaw, and friend to many.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and brother, V.A. Perry.
Barbara was a sweet and loving spirit who will be greatly missed by many. Barbara is survived by her husband Gene VanMeter; sons Steve VanMeter and wife Kimberly, and Gene VanMeter Jr. and wife Kathy; brother Carroll Ray Perry; sister-in-law Claire Perry; sister-in-law Alma VanMeter; 3 grandchildren, Hayley, Misty, James and their spouses; 9 great grandchildren, Brody, Ava, Zach, Kate, Kelly, Ryan, Jack, River, and Lake; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, from 12PM to 2PM with her service to follow at 2PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, located at 4955 Pine St., Beaumont, Texas, 77703
