Barbara Taylor Szabo, 71 years old passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022 in her home from natural causes. Barbara was born on August 27, 1950 in Mishawaka IN. She also grew up in Mishawaka, later making her home in Osceola. Barbara was a John Adams graduate. She married John Szabo on May 5, 1979 in Osceola. Barbara is survived by her husband of 43 years, John Szabo; daughter Eleanora (Szabo) Strycker and her husband Michael Strycker of Ocala FL; 3 grandchildren, Clara, Lilly, Ivy of Ocala FL; brother Douglas Taylor of Granger IN. Barbara was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Taylor; mother Edna (Love) Taylor; sister Kimberley Taylor; brother Robert Taylor. Barbara's first job was at the South Bend Post Office. Barbara was an expert genealogist. She was a member of the South Bend Area Genealogical Society, La Porte County Indiana Genealogical Society and the La Porte County Historical Society. Barbara wrote a 10 volume history of Christmas Seals (American Lung Association) from 1907 thru the present. She also wrote a 14 volume documentary of the art work of Eunice Young Smith (a local artist and writer). Auctions and antique stores were also on her list of things she enjoyed, in fact, she ran her own antique business, named Tidd-Bits of Time. She also enjoyed watching Indy car racing.
Family and friends may call from 10am to 12p.m., Friday, May 13, 2022 at Stemm Lawson Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd. Elkhart, followed by a 12p.m. funeral service also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Barbara Szabo may be donated to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Ste. 1150, Chicago, IL 60601.
