Barbara Kay Staples journeyed home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2022, at the age of 72 after a seven year battle with cancer.
Kay, as she was lovingly called by her family and friends, was born in Charleston, South Carolina to her adoring parents Catherine and Otis Rawls, Jr. She moved to Rockledge, Florida with her family as a child where she grew up with her younger brother, Wendall Rawls. Kay graduated from Cocoa High School Class of '68 and went on to attend the University of South Florida.
Kay was influenced by her parents to be a loving and caring woman which served her well while holding the position of Administrative Assistant to the Senior Pastor at her church for more than twenty years. She loved her church and the people who entered its doors. She strived daily to live a life that reflected her faith and the personal relationship she had with her savior. For Kay, spreading the love of Jesus and his impact on her life was one of her greatest joys.
She was truly the heart of her family. As a mother, Kay was loving, generous and kind. Her three children, John, Amy, and David were the light of her life. She strived to provide them with the best possible life while instilling in them strong values and a love of family. Family dinners and vacations were some of her favorite times together. Kay was married to her husband, Steve for thirty-two years. They enjoyed many adventures together and he remained by her side until the very end.
One of Kay's greatest joys was being "Mimi" to her five grandchildren. She adored spending time with them and could often be found baking, playing games, doing arts and crafts, or supporting them in their many extra curricular activities. If Kay was not spending time with her family, she could be found at church or enjoying the company of her many friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but we find peace knowing she is resting in the arms of Jesus.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Steve; her three children: John (Dawne), Amy (Russell), and David (Amy); five wonderful grandchildren: Isabel, Ella, John Ryan, Lila, and Amelia; her brother, Wendall; two step children Chris (Jennifer), Katie (Ernie); three step grandchildren: Sophia, Josh and Samantha.
