Barbara Ellen (Critser) Smith, age 92 of Bean Blossom, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, November 11, 2024.
Barbara was born in Beech Grove on December 20, 1931, to her parents, the late Sidney and Mable Ruth (Zike) Critser. She was a 1950 graduate of Union Township High School in Johnson County and went on to retire from the Accounting Department of Sears & Roebuck after 23 years of service.
Barbara was a lifetime member and a charter member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Bean Blossom. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and cheering on her grandchildren at their academic and sporting events. Barbara also helped her late husband Bud, who owned and operated Smith's Melon Farm in Bean Blossom, where they grew delicious cantaloupe, watermelon and tomatoes, which they sold at their fruit stand in Bean Blossom.
Besides her parents, Barbara was preceded in death on September 30, 2016 by her husband of 61 years, Luther M. "Bud" Smith, whom she married on October 9, 1954 in Bloomington. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Patricia Mae Vaughn and Jack Critser; and a sister-in-law, Linda Critser.
Barbara is survived by her children, Andrea Lee (Scott) Hall of Ft. Wayne, Kristy Lynn (Grant) Stuart of Nashville and Luther M. "Bud" (Sheri) Smith Jr. of Bean Blossom; brother, David (Nina Barrick) Critser of Brown County; sister-in-law, Wilma (Buck Arnold) Critser of Plainfield; grandchildren, Alexandra (Jeff Johnson) Hall, James (Cassie Myer) Hall, Sydney Hall, Isaac (Kellie) Hall, Luther Hall, Peter (fiancee, Margaret Burke) Stuart, Quentin (Emiljah) Stuart, Nash Stuart, Mallory (Tyler) Hamacher and Tyler (Betsy) Smith; great grandchildren, Annabelle & Connor Scroggins, Bryant Hamacher, Landry Luther Smith & Thomas Tyler Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 18th from 4-8 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Pastor Scott Roberts will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday, November 19th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
