Barbara Ann (Porter) Long, 89, of Mount Vernon, WA passed away March 29, 2022 in Anacortes, WA. She was born in Tacoma, WA on October 27, 1932 to John Wesley Porter and Evelyn McDonald Porter.
Barbara graduated from Sedro Woolley High School in 1950. After moving to Seattle to work, she met and married William S. Long, Jr in 1954. Together they had four daughters and moved to various locations throughout the country for Bill's work with the Boeing Company. After the passing of her husband in 1968, Barbara moved with her daughters back to the Skagit Valley to be near her family.
Barbara worked locally at Skagit Valley Hospital for 6 years before moving to Alaska to work as a cook in a number of logging camps. After returning to Skagit Valley she went to work at Thrifty Foods in Sedro Woolley and Mount Vernon until retiring. She was a 50 plus year member of the Order of Easter Star, Cyrene Chapter in Sedro Woolley, serving as a Past Worthy Matron and a longtime member of Daughters of the Nile, Hatasu Temple No. 1 in Seattle.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Karen (Scott) Gordon, Kathy (Larry) Kilcup, Kim (Mike) Svenson, her 13 grandchildren Jennifer, Nicholas, Katie Gordon, Brice, David, Daniel, Patrick Kilcup, Ashley, Joey, Samuel, Abigail King, Michael, Nels Svenson, 11 great-grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews. All of whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Kristi Long Hanna, brother James Porter and sister Pauline Green.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Northwest for their compassionate care and support and sugget anyone wishing to honor Babara consider a donation to them in lieu of flowers.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00-3:30pm, Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the TERA Bulding, Marathon Campus, 10200 March's Point Rd., Anacortes, WA.
