Mrs. Barbara "Barb" Munro, 85, of Pittsfield, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in East Cleveland, OH, on October 27, 1938, the daughter of the late William and Jeanette Lothman Drummond, she graduated from Pittsfield High School with the class of 1957.
Barbara's family was of utmost importance to her, and the years she spent home raising her children were among the happiest of her life. Once her daughters were older, she went to work as a surgical technician in the OR, and later was employed by Berkshire Surgical Associates, where she dedicated many years of service.
Among many things, Barb enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean with her husband, John, as well as the years they spent wintering in Florida. She and John always loved cruising in their 1946 Ford and, as Barb was always a sport for new adventures, have nothing but fond memories of driving it on their 1500-mile trip to Nova Scotia! Barbara appreciated being outdoors, and when she wasn't traveling, sailing, or camping, could be found at home in her garden.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 64 years, John Munro, whom she married on March 26, 1960. She leaves behind her daughters, Debra Munro Burchard (Robert) and Donna Munro Hendrick, as well as Bayle Murphy, her adopted great granddaughter. Barbara is survived by her grandchildren, John and Nick Burchard, Shauna Murphy Blake (Bruce) and their children Evan and Cameron, and Calvin Murphy and daughter Avery, as well as her nieces Laura Drummond Lang, and Emily Drummond Brown. Barbara leaves behind her brother, Bill Drummond (Linda), sister Anne Marie Drummond Furey (William), sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Munro Hines (Bill), and her sister, Heather Pattee.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Lane.
Funeral Notice:
Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara M. Munro will be Monday, February 12, 2024 at 12 noon at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield MA 01201. Burial will follow at Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be directly prior to the service, from 10am to 12noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory can be made to the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield, 88 South Street, Pittsfield MA 01201.
