On August 23, 2022, Barbara Carpenter McClintock, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away surrounded by her family at the age of 91. Barbara was born on April 26, 1931 in York SC to Harvey and Ella (Duncan) Carpenter. She was the youngest of 6 children and graduated from York High School in 1949 where she excelled in music and had the honor of writing the words of her senior class song. On December 16, 1950 she married James (Jerry) Gerald McClintock. They lived on Dudley Drive in Charlotte NC and raised 4 children there. She was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church and Amity Presbyterian Church.
Barbara was a strong southern woman and a wonderful cook. Her family will fondly remember her mac and cheese, chicken and dumplings, potato salad, coleslaw made with Duke's mayo (never Hellman's) and "Grammy's" sweet tea, as well as holiday dinners with the extended family. She was very close to her brothers, sisters, cousins and their families orchestrating many Carpenter / Duncan family reunions in York.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters and her husband. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth McClintock Jones and her sons Jim McClintock, Mike McClintock and wife Debi, and Rob McClintock and wife Kim; her 7 grandchildren, Austin (wife Jamie) Jones, Kelly McClintock, Ryan McClintock, Jesse (wife Chloe) McClintock, Jenna McClintock, Hunter Jones and Trent McClintock as well as her 2 great grandchildren, Alonnah and Ryder Jones plus many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Amity Presbyterian Church - 2831 N. Sharon Amity Rd, Charlotte followed by internment at Forest Lawn East - 3700 Forest Lawn Dr, Matthews. The family will receive friends on August 27th in the parlor at Amity Presbyterian from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.
