Barbara L. Johnson, 88, passed away peacefully on Oct 3, 2019 at McLaren Hospital, Petoskey, in Hospice care.
Barbara was born to Marrel and Ethel (Pond) Abbey on February 14, 1931 in Bayview, Michigan. She graduated from Petoskey High School in 1950.
She Married Air Force Sgt. Douglas H. Johnson in January 1956 in Petoskey. She joined her husband in Georgia, in March 1956. Barbara worked at the base hospital for two years before giving birth to her first child, son Mark. Daughter Cheryl came along 14 months later in Orlando, Florida. Then the family moved to Germany for four years. While in Germany, sons David and Kenneth were born.
In 1968, Barbara's husband retired from the Air Force and the family moved back to Michigan. They lived in Ponshewaing, Petoskey and Harbor Springs before finally settling down in the upper peninsula in Perkins.
Before becoming a full time homemaker Barbara had several jobs including branch manager at the Secretary of States office, clerk for the prosecutors office and she also worked at the hospital in Petoskey. Barbara enjoyed traveling, playing cards, watching Detroit sports teams on TV and visiting with family and friends. She also enjoyed listening to live music and playing music on her Fun Machine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter. She is survived by her sister Shirley Abbey of Charlevoix, Mark and Janet Johnson of Gwinn, Mich, David Johnson of Minneapolis, Mn. and Ken and Georgia Johnson of Levering, Michigan. Barbara has 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
There are no services planned at this time.
