Barbara Jean Levy passed away peacefully on November 14, 2021. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Barbara had a deep and generous love for her family and will be greatly missed. She was one of a kind.
Born to Harry and Bess Kaplan on November 12,1938 in Dallas, Texas, Barbara attended The Hockaday School where she was a favorite of Miss Ela Hockaday, often invited for tea at the headmistress' cottage. After graduating in 1956, Barbara attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where she received her Bachelor's degree. Determined to hone her financial skills to become a savvy investor, she later went on to receive her MBA from the University of Dallas, where she was one of only a few women in her class.
In 1958, Barbara married Jerome Stanley Feferman with whom she had 3 wonderful sons, Richard, Robert and Josh. Following her divorce, Barbara met Lester Arnold Levy, Sr., on a blind date that turned into a forty-three year long marriage and romance. Barbara and Lester spent their life together traveling, learning and making life-long friends across the globe before Lester's passing.
Barbara's studies and travels sparked a passion for art from other cultures, in particular mainland China and Hong Kong. Her unparalleled aesthetic sensibility and knowledge established her as a highly respected expert and collector of Chinese porcelain and Western Antiques.
Barbara's favorite role was being a grandmother. She doted on her three grandchildren, Sarah Kate, Harris and Hugh, who affectionately called her "Baba." She shared her passions for learning, culture and art with them, and they always looked forward to postcards from her travels complete with tales of adventure, new friends and incredible food.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Leon Kaplan, her sister, Nancy Lubar, her children Richard Jerome Feferman (Stacey), Robert Scott Feferman and Ronald Josh Feferman (Tammy). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah Kate Goodman Feferman, Harris Abe Feferman and Hugh Jacob Feferman.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Ariel Zuniga whose loving care meant the world to Barbara.
