Barbara Jean Beam Karriker, 82, of Mooresville, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Novant Health - Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. Born in Rowan County on June 10, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Luther Taylor Beam and Nora Bernice Dagenhart Beam. In addition to her parents, Barbara was also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Beam and one sister, Betty Beam Cartner. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She dedicated her life to raising children, operating her in-home daycare for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, both vegetables and flowers. Everyone always asked Barbara for her recipes, being that she was a great cook. She was the queen of all food, cooking and baking and everyone loved her homemade biscuits. She sang in the church choir, taught 1st - 3rd grades in Sunday school and always helped with Vacation Bible School at Community in Christ Lutheran Church. For the past twelve years, she has been a member at Concordia Lutheran Church. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, Ferman Presley Karriker; children, Lane Presley Karriker (Jill), Donna Kaye Blythe (Terry) and Kent Shellie Karriker (Kathie); seven grandchildren, Shelby Jean Dwiggins, Caleb Allan Karriker, Morgan Blythe Morton, Jacob Stuart Karriker, Valerie Grace Langley, Grayson Emory Blythe and Sheldon Grant Blythe. She is further survived by six great-grandchildren and her siblings, Lucille McLaughlin (Dale), Luther Taylor Beam, Jr. (Elouise), Tom Beam and Trudy Beam Benton (Lavon). Barbara will lie-in-state at Concordia Lutheran Church, Saturday January 28, 2023 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ken Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the services in the Family Life Center at the church.
