Mrs. Barbara Ann Houle, of Pittsfield, MA, entered into eternal life in heaven on Thursday, October 20, 2022, just a few months shy of her 83rd birthday. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on December 26, 1939, the daughter of the late Alfred and Cecile (Cadorette) Hamel, she graduated from St. Joseph High School with the class of 1957.
Barbara was employed by the former Hillcrest Hospital as a unit secretary. In her retirement years, she volunteered her time as the office manager at Pregnancy Support Services. It was there that she dedicated many years helping young mothers and their babies, a job that she truly loved.
Barbara most enjoyed spending time with her family. She was very devoted to them and shared her strong Catholic faith with them. Her life was a reflection of this, always putting her family first. Barbara also enjoyed cooking, and gardening, especially tending to her beautiful roses.
Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Bernard Houle, whom she married on August 5, 1961. Bernard passed away on February 14, 2020. She is survived by her children Margaret Smith (Lawrence), Patricia van Roekens (Craig), and Roger Houle (Shaunna). She leaves behind her dear grandchildren Lauren Seburn (Joshua), Andrew Smith (Bre), Evan, Ryan, and Victoria van Roekens, and Jaelyn and Parker Houle. Barbara is also survived by her great granddaughter, Avery Seburn. She is survived by her brother Bruce Hamel, sister-in-law Carolyn Hamel, and brothers-in-law Raymond Moffett and Tom Burgs. She was predeceased by her brother Roger Hamel and sister Deborah Burgs and sister-in-law Rita Moffett.
While Barbara will be dearly missed, her legacy of love, faith, family, and compassion for others will be carried on by her family and all of the many lives she has touched.
The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers Irma, Kathy, Sharon, and Julie who took such good care of her and brought her friendship these last few years.
Funeral Notice:
Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Ann Houle will be Thursday, October 27, 2022 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 am at Sacred Herat Church in Pittsfield, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory can be made to Pregnancy Support Services , Pittsfield MA or Save the Children, in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home.
