Descended from John Goode of Whitby Plantation on the James River, the first Goode of her line in this country, and Isham Blake who carried the flag for the Marquis de La Fayette during the American Revolution; adored great-grandchild to Joseph Alston Goode and Ida Cann Goode of Charlotte, North Carolina and John Stancil Blake (Blake's Drug Store) and Eva Burns Blake of Charlotte; and precious grandchild to Evitt Cann Goode and Isolee Duckworth Goode and John Clarence Blake and Esma Rogers Blake of Charlotte; and first daughter of John Clarence Blake, Jr. and Barbara Goode Blake of Washington, D.C., Sarasota, Florida, and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Barbara Ann Blake was a Sarasota High School Sailor, Myers Park Mustang majorette, senior superlative, "Cutest," interviewer of Ernest Hemingway, Statford College and Queens College art major, artist, Pentagon secretary, faithful wife, City Clerk of Greenville, South Carolina, puppeteer, landlord, rescuer of animals, maker of beautiful homes, giver of gifts, much loved Aunt B.A. to niece Blakely Kay Durham, and nephews Edward Lawrence Durham and William Neel Durham; and nephews Webb Durham, III (Caroline), Joshua Blake Durham (Lynette Neel), and Zachary Cann Durham (Audrey); DAR, sought after dancing partner, devoted Christian, author of a children's book, patron to many, lover of Christmas, cornbread baker, party giver, houseboater, native Charlottean and good neighbor.

A memorial service to celebrate Barbara Ann's life will be held December 4, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., Avondale Presbyterian Church, 2821 Park Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28209. A private burial will be at Cannon-Byrd Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. The family would appreciate any memorial gifts to be sent in Barbara Anne's name to Avondale Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, North Carolina.
