Barbara "Barb" Gomarko, age 70, of Olivia, MN, died Sunday, September 22, 2019 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 27th at 1:15 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island with Rev. George Schmit as celebrant. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation for Barb will be Thursday, September 26th at the church from 5-8 p.m. and continue there Friday for one hour prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to St. Mary's Catholic School or Renville County Hospice. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Olivia, MN.
Barbara Ellen Gomarko was born in Aberdeen, SD, to William and Mary Lee (Marshall) Randall on May 31, 1949. Barb graduated from Ellendale High School, in Ellendale ND, with the class of 1967 where she had been homecoming queen. She went on to attend the University of North Dakota at Ellendale. Barb married Jack Gomarko on August 6, 1969 in Ellendale. They made their home at first in Bird Island, since Jack's first career was teaching and coaching there. Barb was employed at Frank Saunders accounting office as a receptionist for two years. Barb was a stay at home mother to their two children Jami and Chad for several years and in 1981 they moved to Olivia. Barb had worked at the 9th Street Boutique in Olivia and then for the Olivia Times Journal newspaper in advertising sales for 24 years until she retired in 2011. Barb enjoyed reading, golfing, riding bike, walking, horseback riding, traveling, and frequent shopping trips to Herbergers. She cherished sitting on her deck looking over the flowers, birds, the field, and nature in her backyard, affectionately referred to as "the farm". Barb also enjoyed spending winters in Quail Creek Resort near Green Valley, AZ, and spending time with family, friends, and her grandchildren. Barb was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women, and a member of the McPhail Mill Questers antique club.
Barb is survived by her husband Jack Gomarko of Olivia; daughter Jami Gomarko of Atlanta, GA; son Chad (Robyn) Gomarko of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Reyna Gomarko, Pierce Gomarko, and Cruz Gomarko; mother Mary Lee Randall of San Antonio, TX; brother Dick (Doreen) Randall of Java, SD; sisters: Nancy (Duane) Skovly of San Antonio, TX, and Beth (Robbi) Steinruck of Comfort, TX; and brothers-in-law Wayne Gomarko of Manson IA and Lyle (Gayle) Gomarko of Dam Lake, MN. Barb was preceded in death by her father William Randall and father and mother-in-law Michael and Gladys Gomarko.
