Barbara Ann Campbell
Help us celebrate Barbara Ann! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Barbara Ann.
Barbara Ann Campbell was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 24, 1938. After an extended illness, Barbara fell asleep peacefully in her home on October 19, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
Born to Razie and Clyde Tidwell, Barbara grew up in Cincinnati with older siblings Lois and Clyde. Barbara credits her wonderful sister, Lois, with having a big part in raising her.
After graduating high school in 1956, Barb jumped into an exciting career as a flight attendant with American Airlines. Thanks to American, she met the love of her life, Norman William Campbell, as they posed for a photo for a Dallas Morning News article. It was love at first sight and they were married six weeks later on September 11, 1959.
Barb and Norm made their home in Dallas, Texas where they joyfully welcomed Stephani Lynn on November 16, 1960, and Michael Norman on May 21, 1963. Due to Norm's work in advertising, they lived in several big cities including New York City and Denver.
In 1974, Barb formed a partnership in the interior design business called Esprit D?cor. She proved to be a very savvy businessperson and continued in the business for 5 years, where she did many projects including designing the Tracy-Locke offices, the inaugural tenant in The Crescent. She went on to form Source One, a custom rug company in the Dallas Design District. One of her proud accomplishments was designing a one-of-a-kind rug for a 737 with a sand and desert theme throughout the plane.
In 1985, Norm was involved in creating Omnicom, a major advertising holding company. This took them back to NYC. Barb spent her time jaunting between NYC and Dallas where they planned to retire, which happened in 1991. Norm and Barb were some of the first homeowners in the beautiful Glen Lakes subdivision.
After Norm retired, they spent much of their free time in the Texas Hill Country outside of Austin. Norm took naturally to developing the area and its many beautiful homes. They both enjoyed it immensely.
Barb and Norm travelled, played a lot of golf, and truly enjoyed life and each other. Tragically, she lost Norm in December 2000 to liver cancer. She would never be the same after that loss but still lived a full life that included bridge, golf, her cherished cats and of course her beloved grandchildren, Jewel, Benjamin and Cate. She loved to spoil her grandchildren with fascinating cruises to places like Alaska and Russia.
Barbara was a strong-willed, loving, kind, and generous person. We take great comfort in knowing that she and Norm are reunited. She will be forever missed. Rest in Peace.
Survived by her children Stephani Hopper and Mike Campbell, wife Polly. Grandchildren Jewel Ann Hopper, Benjamin Norman Campbell, and Cate Lynn Campbell.
The family would like to thank her loyal and attentive caregivers - Barbara, Annette, Rumbi and Lucy.
A private family burial will be held on Thursday, October 27, followed by a 5:30 service in the Restland Memorial Chapel, 13005 Greenville Avenue. A Reception will follow at Northwood Club, 6524 Alpha Road.
