On Sunday, January 18, 2026, Mrs. Barbara Allen Altieri, 90, of Bermuda Run and formerly of Wadesboro, passed away peacefully at Bermuda Village Retirement Center.
Born June 17, 1935, in St. Petersburg, FL; she was the daughter of the late Albert Allen Jr. and Margaret Breeding Allen. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Judith. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She shared a loving 70-year marriage with her husband, Dr. Donald Altieri, and together they raised three children?Lauri, Mark, and Mike?building a close, family-centered life in Gainesville, Florida, Hickory, North Carolina, and Wadesboro, North Carolina. Throughout her life, Barbara was active in the communities she called home, including the Gainesville Women's Club and the Hickory Junior Women's Club. She cherished her church family at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Hickory and First Presbyterian Church in Wadesboro, where she was known for her service and leadership. In Wadesboro, she was actively involved in Leadership Anson and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow.
An entrepreneur at heart and artistic in spirit, Barbara brought creativity, warmth, and humor into everyday life. She was loved for her quick wit and unforgettable one-liners, and for the steady way she cared for those around her. Above all, she treasured her family and was the guiding hand of the family?faithful, fun-loving, and steadfast.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dr. Donald Altieri; her sister Nancy Puryear; her children, Lauri, Mark, and Mike; seven grandchildren, Shannon, Heather, Cassidy, Abigail, Alyson, Cameron, and Caroline; and five great-grandchildren, Grayson, Bristol, Liliana, Madeline, and Raelynn.
Funeral services were on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment followed in Anson Memorial Park.
