Avis Irene Riggin, 96, Harveyville, Kansas, passed away on February 12, 2021. She was born July 3, 1924, five miles northeast of Harveyville to Clarence and Ida Grieves. Avis attended Fairplane Grade School and Harveyville High School graduating in 1942 and lived her entire life in the Harveyville community.
During WW2, she supported the war effort working as a welder. On April 17, 1944, Avis married Gail L. Riggin. Gail passed away on February 17, 2013. Avis and Gail partnered in the operation of their farm north of Harveyville. She also worked as an Avon representative for 15 Years and a real estate agent with Mohler Real Estate for 28 years.
Avis had been a member of the Harveyville United Methodist Church since 1939. Her community activities included singing in the church choir, school board member, Harveyville Alumni Association, Golden Rule Club, Sweet Adaline's, and the Fairplane Grange, to name a few.
Avis is survived by two sons, Gary Riggin (Betty), Rye, Colorado and Mark Riggin (Lorrie), Topeka, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jeff Riggin (Lana), Rye, Colorado, Ryan Riggin (Missi), Lee's Summit, Missouri, Angela Hayes (Steve), Shawnee, Kansas and Shannon Cotsoradis (Constantine), Omaha, Nebraska; and three great-grandchildren, Cade Riggin, Jake Riggin, and Alicia Cotsoradis.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2021, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Private burial will be in Harveyville Cemetery. Service will be live streamed on the funeral home Facebook page.
Due to the pandemic, masks and social distance are absolutely required.
