Born near the Sandhills of South Carolina, Austin Ford Peay was the son of a wealthy Planter and Plantation owner Nicholas Peay and his wife Martha Kesiah Ford. After his father's death, Austin inherited his father's wealth and vast farming lands in Longtown South Carolina, situated in the upper section of Fairfield County, near the town of Ridgeway. In his adult age, Austin went on to serve in the South Carolina legislature for numerous terms, representing Fairfield County and the State Government.
