Audwin “Art” Arthur Perkins, 63, of, Hampton, Virginia, made his peaceful transition into eternal life on Saturday, July 18th, 2022 at Yorktown Rehabilitation Center in Yorktown, Virginia, with his loving wife and daughters by his side. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends, who were always amazed by his knowledge of real estate, the way he creatively styled his clothes and the love for music that was demonstrated through the way he played the drums. Through his mentorship and guidance, he brought light to everyone he connected with. His wit and wisdom, his sense of humor, and his story-telling drew people to him, and he left a lasting impression wherever he went. Art was born on November 29, 1958, to Harold Perkins and Shirley Perkins in Norfolk, Virginia. Art was a well-rounded athlete. He was a standout basketball player during his high school years at Lake Taylor High, where he became a household name, known for his 12-foot jumpers, speed, and mobility. He graduated from Lake Taylor High School in 1977 and then sought higher education at Saint Augustine’s University. Thereafter, he began his career at Newport News Shipyard. Art met, the beautiful Lavanda Johnson, and they married on August 28th, 1981. Shortly after their marital union, they welcomed their first child, Kimara, and several years later the family grew when Audrey was born and welcomed into the family. Those left to be inspired by his legacy, include his devoted wife of 40 years Lavanda Perkins, two loving daughters, Audrey Perkins of Newport News and Kimara Perkins of Carrollton, and his grandchildren, Kolby Taliaferro-Perkins and Amara Zurai Coleman. His sisters will miss Art; Beverly Perkins Williams (Rev.Michael) of Hampton; Bertoma of Norfolk; and brother Bruce Perkins. His beloved nieces and nephews will cherish his memory; Andre Williams of California, Bruce and Bryan Perkins both of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mia Nicole Perkins of Norfolk, and Julie Perkins of Norfolk. In addition, Art leaves to mourn his memory his maternal Aunt Barbara Jean Fields of Norfolk, paternal Uncle Ralph Perkins, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Art was predeceased by his parents, Harold L. and Shirley Ann Perkins; sister, Patricia Ann Perkins; brother, Harold Perkins Jr.; maternal grandparents John and Cora Fields; paternal grandparents Frank and Dora Perkins; uncles Rudolph, Frank, Russell, Zion, Eugene, Leon, Elmo, and Charles Perkins; his Aunt Rebecca Perkins and Ruby Godfrey.
