Sara Audrey McLeod Taylor, (92), formerly of 610 Holly Hill Drive in Anderson, SC, died on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. For the last several years she had lived at North Pointe Assisted Living in Anderson.
She was born April 18, 1926 in Brooks County, Georgia, the daughter of Jeptha Malachi McLeod and Florence Corley McLeod. She was a standout student at the small South Georgia high school in Dixie, where she also took great pride as marble-thumping champion. After graduation, she worked at Ellison's Lad and Dad Store until she met and married Harry Ponder Taylor, from nearby Cairo and Moultrie, in Norfolk, Virginia, during World War II. They remained married for 64 years until he died in Anderson. Audrey and Harry were both active in the Anderson First Baptist Church, and served Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by three children; Richard Taylor and his wife Sandy of Kennesaw, Georgia; Janet Taylor Bryant and her husband Doug of Gainesville, Georgia; and Robert Taylor of Charleston, South Carolina, and Canon, Colorado. A younger sister, Jewel McLeod Baldree lives in Valdosta, Georgia. Audrey has five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2020, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by Dr. Josh Hunt. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
