Rock Hill - Audrey Ann Butler, advocate, artist, gardener, friend, and person of inextinguishable light died on March 21, 2022 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, at age 56. Cancer had met its match in her, and she fought hard but ultimately succumbed. As an attorney focusing on adoption and elder law, Audrey sought to bring a measure of justice to anyone in need. She was creative, artistic, and kind. Her garden was her masterpiece, a canvas that spread life and light.
Audrey was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 7, 1965, and grew up in Griffin. She graduated from West Georgia College and the University of Georgia Law School. She was a District Attorney and then became the youngest US Attorney prosecuting federal crimes in 1990. She also was a missionary with Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ) in Romania and went on to help lead the US Division of that ministry. She recently practiced in Rock Hill with Dove Law Group and as a partner in Butler & Church Law. She is preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Butler. She is survived by her mother, Ann Eady, her brother, Tom Butler, her sister Melody Pumplin (Rich), her nephew Christopher Butler, and her best friend, Sarah Kennedy Irwin. She is already missed by her feline family, Scooter, Cashmere, and Ruby. The family thanks her many friends who supported her these past 14 months and the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House.
A Celebration of Life service, followed by an Audrey-style Tea Party reception, will be held on April 23 at 2 pm, First ARP Church, 201 East White Street, Rock Hill. Memorial gifts can be made to Metrolina Adoption Fund or Fostering the Family.
