Mr. Arvil L. Thompson, age 87, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
Mr. Thompson was born in Alabama on January 11, 1934, son of the late Erastus Clyde Thompson and the late Hattie Ophelia Anderson Thompson. He retired from Berry College where he was Physical Plant Supervisor. He was involved in several civic organizations and served as President of the State of Georgia Jaycee's. He was also a member of the "Willing Shepherds". He loved to quail hunt, to fish and gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Forrest Thompson, and Ernest Thompson.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Lockridge Thompson; his children, Greg Thompson (Mary Ann) and Teritha Lewis; his grandchildren, Nicole Thompson-Piper (Ryan), Casey Cochran (Joseph), and Logan Swanson (Amanda); his seven great grandchildren; his brother, William Thompson (Nellie); his sister, Patricia Williams (Charles); and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Chitwood officiating. Entombment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Friday, April 23, 2021, from 12:00 pm until the service time. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are requested.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Friday, April 23, 2021, at 1:30pm and include: Randall Brown, Bill Case, Wesley Oxford, Tim Rice, Jimmy Floyd, Bruce Nicholson and Don Murdock. The Willing Shepherds will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Children's Miracle Network (Georgia) 1687 Tullie Circle NE, Atlanta, GA 30329
