My loving husband, Arturo (Arthur) A. Valdez, Jr., passed to a more beautiful life on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Art was born on February 16, 1947 to Arturo A. Valdez, Sr. and Maria de Jesus Garcia Valdez in Hebbronville, Texas.
Art graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 1965 and attended Del Mar College and Texas A&I University. In 1969, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed overseas during the Vietnam Era, specializing as a radio intercept analyst in Turkey and Thailand. He married his wife, Zulema A. Valdez, on March 16, 1970, and they spent 51 wonderful years together.
Following his tour of duty, he worked for H.E.B. as a computer programmer for many years. After H.E.B.'s departure to San Antonio, he went to work for the Navy at NAS Corpus Christi as a systems analyst until his retirement in 2004.
Art enjoyed listening to music all day long, collecting coins, and metal detecting with his friend Bill Townsend.
He was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his wife, Zulema, and their two sons, Arthur Valdez III and Richard L. Valdez. Also surviving him are his brother, Joe Valdez (Sandy), his sister, Linda Valdez (Robert Gonzalez), his nephew, Adrian Valdez, and his niece, Amie Valdez. He is also survived by his companion German Shepherd, Holly.
Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers are Arthur Valdez, III, Richard L. Valdez, Joe L. Valdez, Robert Gonzalez, Adrian Valdez, and Bill Townsend.
