Mr. Arthur Talmadge Pitts, age 90, of Lindale, GA, passed away Thursday evening, March 2, 2023, at the family farm.
Mr. Pitts was born in Polk County, GA on October 3, 1932, son of the late William B. Pitts and the late Pearl Mull Pitts. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jerry and Jodie Pitts. Mr. Pitts was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #136 in Lindale. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Greenwood Mills in Lindale following over 48 years at the Lindale Mill and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. While at the mill, he was employed with the Floyd County School System as a bus driver in the Pepperell district for many years. In his early years, he was active in the Pepperell Booster Club and was a youth sports coach for many years in the Pepperell district. An avid farmer, Mr. Pitts was a member of the Floyd County Cattlemen's Association. He was a long-time member of Pleasant Hope Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and in various leadership positions and was a member of the Joshua Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, the former Iris Mildred Bradshaw, to whom he was married on August 25, 1953; 2 sons, Keith Pitts (Wendy), Silver Creek, and Danny Pitts (Lori), Silver Creek; 3 grandchildren, Zach Pitts (Stephanie), Bryce Pitts (Jorge Barcallao), and Ciera Pitts (Bryce East); 4 great grandchildren, Trace Pitts, Leah Grace Lambert, Jessica Lambert and Luke Wood; 2 sisters-in-law, Helen Pitts Lloyd and Mary Ann Pitts Bohannon; 4 special nieces, Jo Marie Amos (James), Allison Cook (Robbie), Jeris Pflueger (Joe), and Melanie Oliver (Tim); great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 3pm at Pleasant Hope Baptist Church with Dr. Joel Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 5 until 7pm.
Pallbearers are requested to assemble at Pleasant Hope Baptist Church on Sunday at 2:30pm and include: active, Zach Pitts, Robbie Cook, James Amos, Cody Amos, Justin Amos, and Joe Pflueger; honorary, Jess Freeman, Jim Mathis, Kenny Newberry, Ed Proctor, Mike Silver, Roger Lemaster and Tommie Sullins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to either Pleasant Hope Baptist Church, 5935 Rockmart Road SE, Silver Creek, GA, 30173, or to Willowbrook Hospice, Memo: Talmadge Pitts, 162 W Main St,, Suite 306, Cartersville, GA, 30120.
The family would also like to thank Willowbrook Hospice for their loving and dedicated care of Mr. Pitts for the past 15 months.
