GARDNER- Arthur "Paul" Guertin, 81, of Chapel Street, died late Friday evening November 27, 2020. He was at home with loved ones at his side.
Born in Gardner on October 20, 1939, Paul was the son of Arthur V. and Helene A. (Lachance) Guertin. He grew up in Gardner, attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from Assumption Prep School in 1958, later attending Assumption College.
Paul enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged on June 4, 1964.
In 2010, Paul married Glenda (Ballou) and they have enjoyed 10 years together. He was previously married to Nancy (Grigas).
Paul worked at the S. Bent Company and Nichols and Stone in Gardner. He also sold real estate and aviation insurance. Before retiring in 2001 he also worked at Athol Table Manufacturing where he was Sales Manager.
Paul was a licensed pilot and flight instructor. He was also an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed hunting and sailing for many years.
Paul was a member of the Rice Meadow Fly Fishing Club. He also served on the Gardner Chamber of Commerce, was on the Board of Directors with GAAMHA, and served on the Board of Directors at the Stetson School in Barre.
Paul is survived by his wife, Glenda Guertin of Gardner; his children, Lisa Peralta and her husband, Scott, of Templeton and Mark Guertin and his wife, Suzeanne, of Lynnfield; two step daughters, Susan Layeux and her family of Idaho, Paula Morris and her family of Templeton, and a step son, A.J. Truchinskas Jr. and his family, of Athol.
Paul also leaves his grandchildren, Meghan Laperriere, Rachel Laperriere, Jake Guertin, Maxwell Guertin and William Guertin; his siblings, Louise Plamondon of Gardner, Alfred Guertin (Maggie) of York, Maine, Andre Guertin (Suzanne) of Gardner, Michelle McAllister (Richard) of Winchendon, Jeanne Hushaw of Jaffrey, New Hampshire, and M. Celeste Barron (Jim) of Athol; along with many nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by a sister, Helene Anne Guertin.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the spring of 2021 when it is hopefully safer to be together.
