Arthur Melvin Rigg, a resident of Cedar Hill, Texas, died Thursday, December 10, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Jacque, and his sister Betty. Art was a long time member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston and Good Shepherd Church in Cedar Hill. He was a dedicated golfer and an avid sailor. Art was born February 3, 1927 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio to Melvin G. Rigg and Avis Baker Rigg. At the age of 10 the family moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1943 and enrolled in Oklahoma A & M College (now Oklahoma State University) where he studied engineering. College was interrupted by service in the US Navy during World War II. He returned to OSU after the war and graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1949. He was a member of the NCAA championship basketball team in 1945. He was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, Sigma Tau and Eta Kappa Nu Engineering societies, Blue Key service organization and the College Band. Art began his career with Humble Oil and Refining Co. (now ExxonMobil) in 1950 as a roughneck on a company drilling rig in West Texas. His career was interrupted by service as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War in 1951-1952 where he was awarded the Commendation Ribbon with Pennant for meritorious achievement in Korea. Returning to Exxon he held a number of engineering and management positions during his 36 years with the company. He spent a majority of the time with Exxon in the development and production of offshore oil and gas resources. In 1983 he found and married his soul mate, Jacque, and with her came a family that meant everything to him. He leaves behind daughter Kathy and her husband Kevin Bosworth, son Dan Brumbaugh and his wife Jeannette, daughter Teril and her husband Dick Woodward, grand children Heather Bosworth Williams and husband Jason, Erin Bosworth Hunt and husband Ben, Brian Bosworth and wife Ines, Daniel Brumbaugh and wife Renae, Jake Brumbaugh, Betsy Woodward Jones and husband Andre, Meg Woodward Herd and husband Joe, Whitney Woodward, and Natalie Woodward. He also leaves great grandchildren - Logan and Allison Williams, Riley, Reese and Ryan Hunt, Luke Bosworth, Shelby Flamenco, Christian Culwell, Hannah Mack and Cr? Jones. Visitation will be Sunday, December 13, from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Jaynes Memorial Chapel in Duncanville. A private family funeral service will be at Good Shepherd Church in Cedar Hill on Monday with burial at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston on Saturday, December 19. Memorial Contributions can be made to North Texas Food Bank or Salvation Army.
