Arthur Judson (Archie) Loveland Jr. (88) peacefully passed away on July 17, 2022 after an extended illness. He was born in Lewiston, NY on May 24, 1934 to Arthur J. Loveland Sr. and Lillian A. (Gunther) Loveland. He was married to his beloved wife Sheila C. (McGahan) Loveland for almost 68 years.
He graduated from HC Technical High School and attended both Erie Community College and the University of Buffalo. He worked briefly at Bell Laboratories as an instrumentation engineer and for Niagara Mohawk, later National Grid for almost 40 years, retiring in 1994. He was recognized for his many achievements and contributions in the design and operating of Nine Mile 1 & 2 nuclear generating stations as problem solver and project lead.
Archie was very active in supporting his six children's many sports including coaching football and baseball and officiating softball. He loved woodworking, boating and tending to his flowers. His precision workmanship created beautiful toys and furniture for his family. His passion project was renovating his waterfront house on Otisco Lake where he enjoyed many evening cruises on his pontoon boat with Sheila, cocktails included. They were avid Buffalo Bills fans, agonizing over every loss and celebrating every win. He was a member of the Tuscarora Golf Club for many years and a member of the Board of Directors for the Burma Road Association.
Archie was a devoted husband and father to his wife and children. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children: sons David (Barbara), Timothy (Tracy), and Jeffery (Suzanne Thurston) and daughters Elizabeth (Charles) McGuire, Michelle (Douglas) Livingston, and Colleen (David) Anna. He was also blessed with 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Avenue, Syracuse on Friday July 29, 2022 from 10:00-12:00.
