Mr. Arlie William Haney, Sr., age 97, of Rome, GA, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at his daughter's residence surrounded by his family.
Mr. Haney was born in Alabama City, AL, on September 16, 1927, son of the late Frank Haney and the late Bertha Dotson Haney. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Wilbanks Haney, and by 6 siblings, Roy Haney, Frank Haney, Jr, Linda Arlene Haney, Ralph Haney, Larry Haney and Jackie Dotson. Mr. Haney was a veteran of the United States Army where he worked on the Army hospital ship. He was an electrician by trade but worked at numerous textile mills over his working career, including the West Point Pepperell Mill, but spent the last 17 years as a security guard at Floyd Medical Center. Mr. Haney was a cut up and loved cracking jokes. He loved talking to people and loved teasing his family. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoying fishing and hunting. Most of all, he just loved being outdoors in God's creation. Mr. Haney lovingly referred to most women as "Charlie's Angel" in reference to his love of the show and of course, Farrah Fawcett. He was of the Baptist faith and is now rejoicing in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, for eternity.
Survivors include 3 children, Arlie William Haney, Jr. (Rosemary), and their sons, Sterling Haney (Jen) and Shane Haney (Trina), Nancy Ann Fowler (Randy), and Frances Jergens (Doug Cadle); 2 sisters, Jeanette Haney and Glennis Elliott (Stephen); a special granddaughter, Kelly Fowler (Becky); his great-grandson and best buddy, Kacey Fowler (Haley), and their son, Kaiden Fowler; special friend, Paulette Blankenship; 7 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Vines officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.
Pallbearers are to assemble by 11:30am on Tuesday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, and include: Kacey Fowler, Sterling Haney, Shane Haney, Doug Cadle, Steve Dobbs and Jeff White.
