Mr. Archie Houston West, lovingly known as "Granddaddy", passed away January 16, 2021 at the age of 88. In 1945, Archie, was saved during a revival service. He loved his Savior and was very active at Harmony Grove Baptist Church, where he was the music minister for over 50 years. In addition, he served as a Deacon. God was number one in his life and Archie served Him faithfully. Then it was his wife of 65 loving years, who he loved beyond measure. After her it was his 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, family and many friends. Archie honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He held a deep love for America all his life. He enjoyed a career in insurance and retired from Liberty National Life Insurance after 35 years. He had a passion for Southern Gospel music and he never went a day without a song in his heart. Archie found great joy working in his garden. His green thumb was unmatched and there was nothing he couldn't grow. He always shared his bounty; his tomatoes being a family favorite. Archie was also an avid Braves and Georgia Tech fan. His family and friends will cherish the memories made with Archie golfing. He loved the game and on his last round, shot a 78.
Archie always wanted to put a smile on the faces of those around him. He would always have a joke to tell and no one laughed harder at them than he did. He also loved to play with his precious grandchildren. Archie will be forever and deeply missed by his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Shirley; children, Tim (Amy), Cindy (Tommy), Lanette (Randy); 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Letha York and a host of loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Pickett and Eula West and a number of siblings. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in memory of Archie to the Harmony Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 4207 Shallowford Rd, Marietta, GA 30062.
