Archie 'Mickey' Hilliard passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Autumn Grove Cottage of Champions. He was 89 years old.
Mickey was born May 16, 1929 to Archie 'Milton' and Rowena Hilliard (Hueffner). Mickey was a veteran and spent time in the Navy and Army Reserves. As a young man, he lived and worked on the King Ranch and shared those fond memories with many. He enjoyed horses and working with animals.
He was married to Margie Jane Moreland of Houston for 50 years. Mickey was a master mechanic and was known for his ability to fix most any type of engine. He built a 1965 Mustang from the ground up including engine, undercarriage, paint and body work. He also had a creative side and could build exact replicas of vintage airplanes from photos. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. After retirement Mickey and Margie traveled across the United States enjoying the sights and reconnecting with friends along the way.
Mickey is survived by his son Mark T. Hilliard of Kingston, Oklahoma and daughter Melanie Hilliard Stewart of Houston, Texas; 7 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Margie Jane Hilliard (Moreland) in 2007.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff and Autumn Grove Cottage of Champions along with A*MED Community Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
The family will receive friends in the foyer of Brookside Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM, with a procession to the graveside service at 10:30 AM at Brookside Memorial Park and Cemetery, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039; Reverend E. B. Beasley will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Archie 'Mickey' Hilliard's name to the Dementia Society of America.
